Patrick Star, the College Board, and a troupe of ballerinas are not the usual crowd in Dixon Gym. But on Friday, October 30, they were among the many costumes on display as students and staff gathered for Saints’ annual Halloween assembly, the highlight of a week filled with spooky festivities.
The costume competition kicked off with the teacher awards. Ms. Smith claimed the scariest costume award, while Mr. Bradbury, dressed as Patrick Star from SpongeBob SquarePants, took home the funniest. A coordinated teacher duo who dressed up as the candy brand Nerds swept both the most creative and best-dressed categories, proving that students weren’t the only ones taking Halloween seriously.
Next up were the student awards, beginning with the DIY category, which recognized students who created their costumes from scratch. A student dressed as a “man in a box” claimed the most creative award before going on to win the overall DIY prize. Preston She 27′ earned best use of materials with his College Board costume, a particularly timely choice for Grade 12 students navigating university applications.
The group costume competition brought some of the assembly’s most entertaining moments. The chefs won most creative and the Oktoberfest bros earned most accurate for their take on Munich’s famous festival. But it was the cheerleaders who stole the show. Performing in the middle of Dixon Gym, the group impressed the judges enough to secure both the funniest and best overall group award.
The assembly was just one part of a week filled with Halloween celebrations. Earlier on Wednesday, students gathered in the Quad for a pumpkin-carving contest, where they transformed ordinary pumpkins into an assortment of grinning, grimacing, and frightening jack-o’-lanterns. Throughout the week, students were also invited to brave the haunted house in the old building during lunchtimes.

With the costume awards handed out and the festivities winding down, Saints headed into the weekend with another Halloween celebration in the books.
