From LAIKA Studios, the animation studio behind Coraline and Kubo and the Two Strings, comes Wildwood, a stop-motion fantasy adventure directed by Travis Knight. Based on Colin Meloy’s novel, the film follows Prue McKeel, a young girl whose baby brother is abducted by a murder of crows. Her search takes her and her classmate Curtis into the Impassable Wilderness, a mysterious forest inhabited by talking animals.
As Prue ventures further into the wilderness, she finds herself navigating an unfamiliar world, confronting unexpected challenges, and undergoing a transformation she could hardly have anticipated. What begins as a search for her brother becomes a journey that tests her courage, judgment, and understanding of herself.
For St. George’s graduates, the film’s central journey offers a fitting parallel. As graduation approaches, students are preparing to leave behind the familiar routines, relationships, and community that have shaped much of their lives. Like Prue entering the wilderness, they are stepping into an environment whose challenges and opportunities they cannot fully anticipate. Although the transition may bring uncertainty, it also presents an opportunity to grow, discover new perspectives, and define themselves beyond the boundaries of the school environment they have known for years.
As the Class of 2027 prepares for its next chapter, Wildwood offers a reminder that sometimes the most transformative journeys begin with a courage to take a step into the unknown.
