This Thursday, February 22, Sodexo treated the school community with a special Black History Month themed meal. There was a huge variety of food that was offered. Justin Applegarth 24′ commented that “it was delicious” and that he really enjoyed the BBQ ribs.

The meal featured Jamaican Jerk Chicken Drums, Nigerian Jollof Rice, Apple Slaw, Collard Greens, Corn Bread, Yams, and St. Louis BBQ Ribs. I found the meal to be filled with many different flavours, all of which took a slice out of traditional Black cuisine. My favourite part of the dish was the combination of the Collard Greens with the Nigerian Jollof Rice. I found the flavours in these two dishes to be very complimentary. I found the St. Louis BBQ Ribs, to be deliciously messy and this seemed to be common among my peers as I watched the napkins fly out of their typically unused containers.

Sodexo has now offered two specially-themed meals this year: Lunar New Year and Black History Month. These meals tend to lighten the school’s mood as they are different lunches that only come once a year. Students and teachers alike are filled with utter joy looking forward to these meals.

After another successful meal, I hope Sodexo continues to spice up the coming lunches to keep the school community interested.
