English 12 students fly away

The Kite Roller! Tristan Taylor pushes Ms. Gin around the field

On Thursday, October 3rd, grade 12 English students were treated to a class of kite flying, teamwork and fun.  The crisp yet sunny day gave the boys a chance to experience kite flying firsthand–an important lesson while they study Khaled Hosseini’s touching novel, The Kite Runner.

Besides the thrill of being outdoors on a rare sunny afternoon, students were amazed by the power of symbolism and themes that were realized by actually flying their own kites.  Back in the classroom, the boys prepared presentations featuring links from their experience–including photos from the day–to the language and characters of the book.

As an added token of excitement, a group of grade 12s carried Ms. Gin onto the field in her wheelchair and pushed her around with a kite as well.

It was a memorable and exciting day for all involved!
