On September 20, 2016 the St. George’s Varsity Volleyball team faced off against Bodwell High in the first game of the 2016/2017 season. The game began at 4:30 PM in the Dixon Gym as both teams awaited for the season to start.

St. George’s started their season on a terrific note defeating Bodwell High 3-1. Defeating Bodwell High was the first of many goals looking to be achieved by this team.

After the season opener Saints went to play in a difficult tournament at Douglas College.

“We have an outstanding team this year with lots of experience. Our main goal for this year is to make the provincial tournament at the end of the season. We have not attended this tournament the past few years and are hoping to break the threshold this year. Along the road to provincials, we are hoping to win the league which we have done the past few years. We are also looking forward to strong performances in tournaments. We recently finished 6th in a tough tournament at Douglas College and are hoping to carry this success into this weekend at UBC,” Varsity player Marcus Dee explains the team’s goals for this upcoming season.

After playing in a tough Douglas College tournament, Saints went on to defeat both Regent Christian Academy and Khalsa Jr. Secondary 2-0.

The team has a busy schedule before the ISAA tournament begins on October 28, 2016.

St. George’s will now look to compete at the UBC tournament this Friday. Their first game will begin at 10:00 AM.
