International Women’s Day: Celebrating Women Through Art!

Every year, International Women’s Day takes place on March 8th. The goal of the day is to promote a global focus on women’s issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women. This year, St. George’s made great strides to celebrate the day to the fullest of our abilities—fostering discussions within advisor sessions and bringing attention to it during assemblies. The main event, however, was the mural created by the art students (listed below).  Pictured above, the mural honours women’s achievements and shows what an inspiration they are to society. It was unveiled in the Upper Great Hall on International Women’s Day and was celebrated with treats. A huge thanks to Liam Hughes ’24 and Ms. Darwin for the idea along with Ms. LeBlanc for organizing the artists. Although women are still marginalized in many ways in today’s society, days such as International Women’s Day show that steps are being taken in the right direction.

If you would like to donate to women’s causes, that can be done here.
