Sustainable Saints!
On February 17 2015, the GPACS Environmental Committee and Sustainable Youth Canada hosted a Sustainability Fair at St. George’s in the Lower Great Hall at lunch. Local organizations, including BC Hydro Powersmart, Vancouver Aquarium and Pacific Spirit Park Society, came to the school and set up interactive booths with information regarding sustainability. Grade 11 student Raymond Wang, who was one of the main organizers of the event, had a few words of reflection after the fair concluded. “The theme for our Sustainability Fair this year was “awareness into action”. By inviting local nonprofits and youth from schools across the city, the goal was to create a forum for people to get connected, get informed, and ultimately get motivated to do their part in creating a more sustainable future! I think that it was a great success.”
This year, St. George’s has taken a large step towards becoming a greener and more environmentally aware school. Along with the implementation of the Environmental Stewardship committee and numerous other events, the Sustainability Fair reflected the commitment that the members of the community have made to achieving their goals. As the year continues to progress, be sure to look out for more events and consider joining the GPACS Environmental Committee to make a difference at St. George’s!
