Tuesday, April 16th—The defending tennis ISA champions do it again! After a day filled with thrilling matches and excitement, the Senior Tennis Team takes home gold after defeating Collingwood 3-0 in the finals.
The ISA Championships were held at the UBC Tennis Centre. Independent school teams from both Victoria and the Greater Vancouver area came to participate and give their best shot at winning the title in both the girls and boys categories.
Before the tournament, team captain, Joey Shen ’24, encouraged the team to “fight hard”, as he believed that the other teams would be “gunning” for them. This legendary speech was the backbone of the team’s success and showed in their undefeated result throughout all of their matches.
Due to another team dropping out, St. George’s was able to field two teams: Team A, and Team B. Through this adjustment, each individual on the 16 player roster was able to play at least one match throughout the day. Although Team B was not able to defeat Collingwood to meet Team A in the finals, the boys continued to cheer each other on with enthusiasm and spirit.
The tournament highlighted the Senior Tennis Team’s depth of talent and skill and was a great way for the boys to kick off the tennis season. The boys hope to use this experience as a pedestal to continue their success in their future matches going forward!
The Senior Tennis Team hopes to continue their successful campaign next week, when they face off against VC/LFA on Monday the 22nd of April, followed by WPGA on Wednesday the 24th.
