Varsity Basketball Completes Preliminary Fitness Testing
The St. George’s Varsity basketball team held preliminary fitness testing throughout the week of September 11th for students looking to tryout for the team in November. The purpose of the testing was to get a baseline feel for where all the players are athletically at this point. The team will be hosting a second round of tests with specific expectations as a part of the tryout process in November. Six tests were completed by each individual: beep test (vO2 max), bench press, pull ups, vertical, T-test(agility), and plank.
The star of the testing was 6’2” Forward Sam Sirlin who came out with the top score for the vertical test (30.5”), bench press (238lbs), and pullup test (18). Chris “Salamander” King showed off elite quickness in the T-test winning handily with a time of 8.81 seconds against an average time for competitors of 9.61 seconds. In the days to come veterans from last year’s varsity squad Alex Ference, Chris King, Will Lin, Sam Sirlin, and Louis Sujir will work with Coach Bill Disbrow and trainer Jon Hayduk to establish standards that players will have to meet at the tryouts.
