Start of 10B Soccer Season
On September 6, 55 grade 10’s tried out to be on the St. George’s soccer team. It was a hard fought two days, with boys playing their hearts out to get onto the roster. Once the A team was selected, a 29-man roster was selected to represent the school playing on the 10B team. Coached by Mr. Daniels and Mr. Wisden, the team began their season by playing a friendly with the Second XI. This game gave insight into what the B team could become with a strong effort against their older counterparts. The next day, the team begun their season with an away game against West Point Grey.
At 3:00, the team went on the bus and travelled across town to Trillium Park to play their first league game of the season. Eager to start the game, the B team lined up in a 4-4-2 formation and fought hard, but let in two goals in the first half. After a missed chance in the beginning of the second half, fatigue set in and the B team let in 7 more goals. After a tough match, goalkeeper Aden Gill told The Creed that “the team needs to work on basic skills but we faced a skilled WPGA team, so I thought it was a reasonable result.” Although this was a tough loss for the team, the spirits are still high with Ben Chubbs telling the Creed that “we are looking to bounce back for the rest of the season”. The 10B team plays their next match against King David on Tuesday, with the team looking to get a win for their second game of the season.
