Grade 9 Rugby Caps Off Season
On Thursday November 19 2016 the grade 9 rugby team travelled to Vancouver Island to play in their final game of their season against St. Michaels University. St. Georges had defeated St. Michael’s in their previous meeting at Nigel Toy Field. Saints found themselves down 17-5 at halftime; however, they ended up battling back ending the game in a 17-17 draw. The grade 9’s finished off their successful season as they defeated Shawnigan Lake, Collingwood, and Brentwood College in their previous games. “42 players came out to play rugby this year for grade 9 which was very impressive. We divided into two teams a 9A team and a 9B team. We competed in three 7s tournaments meaning there was a lot of experience for 7s and 15s. Are attack was very strong from our forwards and also from our backs,” coach Mr. Mike Stiles reflected on the season.
