St. George’s 1st XI: Season Debut
On Monday September 19th, St. George’s 1st XI soccer team kicked off their first home game of the Lower Mainland Independent School Soccer Association (LMISSA) against West Point Grey Academy. Coming off a first place finish at ISAs, St. George’s played with confidence in their home-opener. A tunnel led the players onto Mortenson to start the game. WPGA started off with a bang, scoring the first goal. Moments later, St. George’s striker, Jamie Catliff hit a well struck shot in the bottom corner, which evened the score. The game went scoreless for many minutes with St. George’s getting denied chance after chance by WPGA’s goal keeper. Eventually, WPGA exploited a hole in Saints’ defense scoring a late-game goal. When all hope seemed lost for St. George’s, Jamie Catliff stepped up once again, striking a brilliant volley in to the bottom right corner, tying the game in the last play. With resilience and grit, Saints came out with a tie to start off a well-anticipated season.
