On Your Mark…Get Set…Go!
On March 9 2015, the St. George’s Track & Field Team had its first practice of the 2015 season. With the departure of last year’s head coach Derek Johnston, this year’s head coach is Mr. Aidan Docherty, who has worked closely with the athletics departments in both the Junior and Senior School. He will be assisted by two new staff members, Ms. Lawrence and Ms. Torry. After the first practice had concluded, Mr. Docherty had a few words to share regarding the upcoming season. “This year with the Track & Field program, my goals are to increase the number of participants in the program, and as a result have more success at the Zone Finals and Provincial Championships. I hope to use the success from the 8s, 9s and 10s primarily, to increase the recognition of our program and restore its previous history of success.”
“The thing I enjoy most about coaching Track & Field is being able to see the progression of so many athletes in so many different athletic aspects. Any success that comes with it is due to the hard work the athletes put in. I think I am simply there to guide them on the right path.”
This year, the team will be competing in the league meets and Zone Finals at Swangard Stadium as well as in the BCHS Provincial Championships, which will be held in Langley. Furthermore, select athletes will be competing in other prestigious meets such as Gran Forza and what will surely be one of the highlights of the season, the Oregon Relays. As the season progresses, be sure to check The Creed for further updates on the St. George’s Track & Field team. It surely looks to be a promising season!
