Grade 10s Ball Out in Nanaimo
A new year, a new season. On Friday Nov.28th, the JV basketball team played their first games of the 2014-15 school semester, travelling to the island to participate in the 2 day VIU tournament in Nanaimo. Though uncertain what to expect from the Vancouver Island teams, the grade 10s came out strong and proved to be dominant. They won their first game against Belmont by 50 points (61-11), then followed up by blowing out Mark Isfield Secondary 56-16. There were notable performances by point guard Justin Huang and big man Jacob van Santen.
These victories propelled the squad into the semi-finals, where they continued to pave their path to victory. The ND Islanders were up next, but there was no stopping the JV team as they ousted the Nanaimo District School 46-24 en route to their championship game against an undefeated Oak Bay team. During the big finals matchup, tensions were high and hearts were racing. However, through a great team effort and solid defense, the Saints boys came out on top 46-36.
The players were ecstatic as they celebrated their big triumph. It was a smooth start to the year for the grade 10 basketball team, and hopefully a sign of what’s to come later in the season.
