Introduction to Poetry – in Voice!

Hundreds of students at St. George’s have memorized poems in their English classes in order to compete in the national recitation contest, Poetry in Voice
Poetry in Voice is a component of the English curriculum here at St. George’s and schools all across Canada. Poetry in Voice begins in the classroom where students select a poem from a list on the Poetry in Voice website and then recite their poem in front of their peers. At this point a winner is decided and advances to the next stage to compete against the rest of their grade. Whoever wins that segment advances to the final stage where a representative of each grade recites their poem in front of the entire St. George’s student body during assembly. At this point representatives from schools compete online in semi-finals. If chosen contestants continue to the finals which are held this year in Vancouver. Poetry in Voice is truly a great opportunity for students to express themselves and will continue to grow as the years pass by.
