Cross Country: A Strong Start To the Season
Last Tuesday, September 27th, the Saints cross country team started their season. The meet was hosted at and by St. George’s and consisted of: Saints, Vancouver College, West Point Grey Academy, St. Michael’s, Fraser Academy, York House, Crofton House, and Little Flower Academy. The race was comprised of a loop around the Saints field and then 3 laps around Chaldecott, combining for a 7 km long race. Saints ended up with fantastic results: Roberto Pelayo Mazzone(12) coming 1st, Nick Varabioff(12) coming 3rd, Isaac Shaha coming 4th, and Yoshi Matsubara(11) coming 5th. Having 4 out of the top 5 from Saints was an amazing accomplishment and a great start to the season. The teams next race is on October 4th at Jericho.
Here is a quote from 3rd place finisher, Nick Varabioff : ” The team got basically the best start possible with 4 boys finishing in the top 5. This years team is looking very strong with many returning boys, as well, strong new boys. Hopefully the team will be able to continue this momentum for the rest of the season. I am very excited for the season and am hoping we will be able to bring another ISA Championship to Saints.”
