This past Saturday, May 4, 2013, marked the 60th anniversary of St. George’s country fair. The annual fair is always held on the first Saturday of May at the St. George’s junior campus. The fair’s main purpose is twofold: to fundraise money for the school and simultaneously bring the entire Dunbar community together. People of all ages come from the surrounding communities to enjoy a day of fun.
Whether that fun comes from searching the shops for a killer deal or enjoying the field games, it is assured that everyone who attends has a great time. Some of the fan favourites and most memorable events are the teacher dunk tank, the cake walk, and the various international food booths. Arguably, the most-loved event of the fair is the raffle draw. Each year, raffle tickets are sold for five dollars, and the prizes are incredible. This year a lucky contestant walked away with the grad prize–a 2013 Jeep Wrangler!
St. George’s does such a great job with supporting its students and a large contributor of these funds comes from donations and the spring fair.
