Second Varsity Ballers
The Second Varsity basketball season came to a close with an away game against the West Point Grey Academy Wolves on Friday February 17th. The Saints lost the nail biting game by the score of 51-50, with the lead changing multiple times in the last quarter. The squad has a multitude of depth including ball handlers and shooters such as Yoshi Matsubara (11) as well as a group of physically larger players referred to as the ‘Meat Squad’, including Koshi Hayward (12), Michael Davidson (12), Alex Stekl (12) and Matteo Aquilini (12). Despite the diversity of the team, they fell to the Wolves in the final play, a deep three pointer that banked off the backboard. Although ‘bank’ was not called, the basket still counted, yet the team was left in high spirits.
“The second varsity program has not only taught me to be a better ball player, but also a better team player and individual,” says Koshi Hayward (12). The season did not end with a win but the players all came away with something new.
